Nick Clayton
SENIOR CONSULTANT

Nick Clayton is a Senior Consultant with Sea-Change Partners. He is based in Sri Lanka. He is a former Joint Managing Director of Crescat Development Limited, a property development and operating company in Colombo.

After graduating from university, his career started as a money manager, specializing in Asian equities, with the UK based merchant bank, N.M. Rothschild & Sons. In 1983 he moved to Hong Kong to work with Bank of America managing money for high net worth individuals based in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand. From the contacts and experience gained in this job he started, two years later after graduating from INSEAD with an MBA., his own investment advisory business, MCL Clayton Ltd, based in Bangkok, Thailand. This business, as well as a substantial stake in a Sri Lankan investment bank, Asia Capital Ltd, were sold in 1997, just prior to the Asian financial crisis.

For the last several years, apart from a spell at Harvard, he has been an ‘angel investor’ with 3/4 significant stakes in private companies, located around the world, and acts as a non-executive director to them. This business involvement has continued during his recent period as Entrepreneur-in-Residence at INSEAD’s Singapore campus, where he assisted in the teaching of entrepreneurship and helped students start their own businesses.

He has an MA in Economics from Cambridge University in England, an MBA from INSEAD, and an MPA from the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.
